People Skills 101
Course Syllabus
Introduction
"People skills" is a rather generic term which implies and encompasses a number of various human activities. First impressions, communication abilities, uplifting and empowering others, talents of influence and persuasion, and creating win-win satisfactory outcomes, all figure prominently in our daily interactions with each other. If we were animals, this would be so much easier! In other species, patterns of behavior are written generally with unwavering accuracy into their very DNA. However, with human interactions we must also deal with emotions, self-doubt, deceptions, altruism, greed, courage, and a host of other characteristics, both positive and negative, which greatly complicate the process.
How do we approach these challenges to ensure success in our business and social relationships?
In People Skills 101 we will explore all aspects of our interactions with others through the combination of lecture and interactive class format. Where applicable, exercises will be included as opportunities for participant practice. Much has been written on these subjects and we shall draw heavily from such authors and books as listed below. Importantly, this will be tempered by real life experience and wisdom.

The Goal
The goal of this Meetup is to help anyone gain a better understanding of how we may more effectively interact with people. In so doing, we will enhance our own success by helping others to achieve what they want out of life.
Who Should Attend
Content and discussions will be applicable to all who are interested in improving their understanding of people and how to build long-lasting personal and business relationships. It therefore is not limited to just those in categories as listed by Meetup.
The Format
People Skills 101 will be conducted like a college level seminar course that meets the third Thursday of each month. While individual topics can stand alone, it is advisable to attend all meetings in sequence. The formal "class" sessions will start promptly at 7:00 pm and end promptly at 9:00 pm. However, this Meetup will begin at 6:30 pm so we have 30 minutes for review of the previous class topic, discussion of individual needs, and general socializing. It also gives everyone adequate time to arrive before 7:00 pm.
There will be up to 6 pages of copyright protected "Class Notes" in pdf-file format made available to all registered attendees for downloading the day before the meeting (see more on this below). To maximize your benefit, plz remember to print and bring this outline with you for completion and additional note taking during the session.
Currently, there is no fee charged to participate in these classes.
The following titles are currently under development, although they may evolve differently based on specific needs of the group.

This document will be located on the Current Class Notes page which is password protected. On the evening before each session, all registrants will receive an e-mail directing them to this URL and given the password which is specific for one session.
Plz note. These Class Notes are copyright protected and intended for registrants only! They are not to be distributed to other members of this meetup or to those outside this meetup. Since you are receiving this course for free, I ask you to respect my policy. If you have registered a guest for the session, plz print an extra copy for him/her.
The reason registration closes 24 hours in advance of each class is so that participants have this time to download and print their copy of the Class Notes to bring with them to the session.

Our Meetup Policy
Since this Meetup is conducted like a college seminar course, there will be 3 to 6 pages of Class Notes. For maximum benefit, plz print and bring this outline with you to the class.
Currently, there is no admission charge to attend this course. However, in return for that courtesy, I ask for your cooperation and accountability. If you RSVP'd "Yes," plz be there on time to begin formal class promptly at 7:00 pm, as late-comers can be disruptive to our discussion. I've purposely scheduled this Meetup for 6:30 pm so we have 30 minutes for review of the previous class topic, discussion of individual needs, and general socializing. It also gives everyone adequate time to arrive before 7:00 pm.
N.B.
Unless otherwise noted, RSVPs may be changed only until 4:00 pm the DAY BEFORE the meeting.
This means cancellations as well as new registrations!
Three "No Shows" (on a "Yes" RSVP) and you will be removed from this Meetup.

Lastly, plz know that my medical classes were always known as a safe place for students to learn, and I regard this Meetup group no less. So, I trust it goes without saying that soliciting or recruiting other class members for your personal business or project is not allowed.
